Use one of the Library’s computers or bring your own laptop.
The Library provides Internet access on our computers and through an open wireless Internet connection. All patrons are expected to abide by the Library’s Policies and Procedures for Public Use of In-House Electronic Resources.
Scheduling of our computers is managed by an automated PC Reservation system (Envisionware). A valid RCLS member issued borrower card is required. Initial sessions are 30 minutes in length and can be extended incrementally if no one else is waiting. All juvenile card holders (under 18) will be directed to use the computers in the Children’s Room which are configured with filtering software unless we have received a parent’s permission for the child to use the computers in the Adult area. Visitor passes are available.
Black and white printing costs 15 cents per page; color printing costs 35 cents per page. Patrons are expected to pay for all pages printed—if you are unsure about the length of a document you wish to print, please ask a librarian for assistance in understanding your printing options before sending the job to the printer.
Wireless Internet is available in the building during the hours that the Library is open. The wireless network name is “Pearl River Library” and no password or login is required. In house printing is not available from wireless devices. Library staff can provide basic directions related to Wi-Fi access; however staff cannot be expected to configure an individual’s personal laptop or to provide assistance with the installation of hardware or software. Note that we have found that some laptops and devices – especially those issued by employers or schools—may be configured with security features (firewalls) and other programs which may impede access to our Wi-Fi connection. The Library does not assume responsibility for the safety and integrity of personal equipment or data files.
All Library computers have MS Word installed and most have additional MS Office Suite programs. Documents cannot be saved to our hard drives and access to personal external drive devices is limited on some computers. Please see a librarian for assistance. For your convenience small external “thumb drives” are available for sale for $5 at the Adult Reference Desk.
